December Update
The 12 Days of Epsilon
Twitter Reddit

Happy holidays from the Pokémon Epsilon team! It’s been a long year, full of wonderful creations and memories here on the project, and many good moments shared with the community every step of the way. For this month, we decided to handle the update a bit differently, to coincide with our 12 Days of Epsilon event! We will be updating this page every day with more information from the reveals made on our Twitter page, so make sure to check back every day from December 13th until the 24th for more information! With that being said, let’s start off with the first day!

On the First Day of Epsilon, the Dev Team Gave to Me: Origin Aron’s Full Line!

For our first reveal this month, we thought it would be fitting to show off the remainder of Oliver’s favorite origin partner; Origin Aron! With Aron revealed back in July, it was time for the remainder of the line to join the party, so here are the designs of Origin Lairon and Origin Aggron, with lore written by Yesh!

Origin Aggron Line (Bug/Dragon): The Herculean Beetle Pokémon

Despite their small size, Aron are capable of lifting nearly 400 times their own weight. They have light wings built into their hardened exoskeleton, allowing for quick travel across short distances. When confronted with predators it will shrink itself and present only its horn as protection.

As they get stronger and larger, Lairon and Aggron are capable of lifting up to 900 times their own weight. Their horns are sharp and tough but used only for self-preservation. They eat dead leaves and branches, clearing rotten vegetation away and fostering new growth in forests. They are attracted to shiny objects and will often hoard pieces of junk in underground lairs.

The source of their transformation is speculated to be twofold. When Tropius began cohabiting forests, they would resurrect dead leaves and plant life, removing a major source of food. Combined with an increase of Seviper, Arbok, Staraptor and Noctowl, the Aggron line began hiding in caves and naturally occurring mines, seeking shelter and sustenance. Because of their tremendous physical strength, they fused additional armor to their exoskeleton from the rocks and iron to protect themselves.

Abilities: Poison Touch, Hustle

Origin Wooper/Quagsire (Dark/Poison), the Deep Cave Pokémon

Found deep in caves where light rarely, if ever, reaches, Wooper are near-blind predatory creatures. Their skin secretes a powerful toxin which covers their bodies in a thin, translucent slime. They can sense movement through their ears and tail, even in the darkest depths. They are capable swimmers and will feed on any fish that bumps into them, dying from their poison touch. Their tail is capable of launching them through the water at the slightest sign of danger.

Upon evolving to Quagsire, it’s power nearly doubles. With a single Hammer Arm swipe they can collapse entire caverns before diving into the water and swimming away. While Wooper are relatively weak and only hunt small fish unlucky enough to get in their way, Quagsire will hunt Zubat - and if feeling especially brave, Golbat. The plum-purple coloring on their bodies acts as a warning to other Pokemon: the darker it is, the more powerful a Quagsire is.

Perhaps it was the dark that finally made them change, or its inverse, the light. After chasing a swarm of Zubat to the surface - a rare occurrence as this species loves and thrives in the dark - it seems likely the light was too blinding for one Quagsire. But…they had never ventured the surface before. The species built a resistance to the light so as to continue exploring a heretofore unknown world. They have, since then, become surface dwellers, and much tamer, no longer being on the top of the food chain. Their toxic slime became less and less potent through the years, and with their new sense of sight they no longer needed to be agile, ferocious and predatory to survive. What originally led that one Quagsire to the surface? Was it Divine Intervention or sheer, dumb luck? We may never know.

On the Tenth Day of Epsilon, the Dev Team Gave to Me: The New Armored Pokémon Forms!

For the Tenth Day of Epsilon, the world-renowned scientist Wilson of the Vesryn Elite Four is working on a new way to revolutionize battling. Introducing his latest invention: Armored Pokemon! Wilson has created three types of armors: The ATS (Attack-Type Series), DTS (Defense-Type Series), and STS (Speed-Type Series), each of which focus on primarily boosting a certain aspect of a Pokemon, helping them to stay a fierce opponent to face without the need of a mega evolution. Pokemon wearing these armors will be given substantial 50 point stat boosts to their BST, allowing them to have a bit more of an edge in battle. To show of some examples of armors, our artist, Crimtriestoart, a former team artist Lani, along with our spriters Nico and Egg, bring you Armored Eelektross, Armored Trevenant, and Armored Togekiss!

On the Eleventh Day of Epsilon, the Dev Team Gave to Me: Trainer Customization!

On the Eleventh Day of Epsilon, Trainers from all over gather around their favorite clothing stores and hair salons, because style has become all the rage for young trainers across the Vesryn Region! New trainers will have many places to stop and find new accessories and styles to express themselves more for their journey. Our artists Kat, Crimtriestoart, and Xiapher, used this chance to draw a few examples of outfits and skin tones that you can use to create your character in your style!

On the Twelfth Day of Epsilon, the Dev Team Gave to Me: Our Biggest Reveal Yet?!

For The Twelfth Day Of Epsilon, the dev team wanted to reveal something that has been in production for many months. But first, I want to take a moment and reflect over the past two years.

When the project was first started in April of 2016 by myself and UltraTom, Epsilon was meant to be nothing more than a recreation of Pokemon Zeta/Omicron, which were originally created by TheSuzerain. Since then, over two years’ worth of development time has passed. Many members have joined the team, and some members have sadly left for a variety of reasons. But without the hard work and dedication made by each and every one of our team members, and the community as a whole, this project would not be in the place that it is today. Because of this, I wish to use this last reveal as a heartfelt thank you. As Epsilon’s original creator, I say thank you, to everyone that has taken even a fraction of their life to help make this game reach the state it’s in now. Whether they are still a member of our group, or a former developer that has stepped away from the project, or even just a fellow fan that consistently comments and gives feedback each and every month. You are all appreciated, from the absolute bottom of my heart, and I am so thankful for every memory along the way.

With that being said, on this Twelfth Day of Epsilon we wanted to commemorate our Christmas festivities with happy memories, and a fresh start for 2019. And what would be better to make a fresh start than to reveal none other than every Pokemon trainer’s most important first choice: The Starter Pokemon! Introducing: Origin Chikorita, Origin Cyndaquil, and Origin Totodile, drawn by Elle, sprited by Egg, with lore written by Cyra!

ochikorita

Origin Chikorita (Ice/Dragon) - The Ice Leaf Pokémon

If you manage to make it to the summit of Mt. Press, you may catch a glimpse of a Meganium herd playing in the snow with their offspring. Chikorita love rolling down the snowy slopes, often getting themselves stuck in deep snowdrifts. If a Chikorita is ever in trouble, a single roar is powerful enough to summon the rest of the herd, who will immediately flock to protect it.

Their psychic abilities, however, are already at work, allowing them to stay afloat a few feet aboveground, and letting them communicate telepathically with their caretakers. Always sleepy, young Cyndaquil are known to simply float past cliff ledges into the open air without a second thought, much to the chagrin of their Typhlosion parents.

In The Vesryn Region, Professor Marina Arbutus is typically known for handing out Johto based starter Pokemon to new trainers. However, it seems as the player begins their journey that these three new Origin forms will have surfaced after certain events in the game. Which starter will you pick to join you on your journey through Vesryn?

With that, we conclude our 12 Days of Epsilon! We hope you enjoyed everything the team had to offer, and all of the reveals that we showed. What was your favorite day during this December Update? Let us know what you think on our Twitter and Reddit !
